Iran, Azerbaijan to enhance banking ties

EghtesadOnline: Governor of Central Bank of Iran (CBI), Valiollah Seif, and Azeri economic and financial officials on Monday discussed ways of Iran-Azerbaijan banking relation expansion.

The CBI governor's deputies and managing director of Bank Melli Iran accompany Seif in his Azerbaijan trip.

Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev, Governor of Central Bank of Azerbaijan, Elman Rustamov, and the Chairman of Financial Market Supervision Chamber of Azerbaijan, Rufat Aslanli, were present in the event, IRNA reported. 

“An Azeri expert delegation is scheduled to travel to Iran within a week to finalize negotiations and to prepare the ground for banking cooperation in line with the two countries’ economic needs,” Seif said.

“Developing cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan banks to facilitate trade relations and exchange, creating an especial card account to work with the national currency of both countries to pave the way for Iranian and Azeri businessmen were among the topics discussed during the meeting,” he added. 

He pointed to integration of Iran and Azerbaijan bank card systems as an example of topics discussed in the meeting, saying that both countries’ tourists would be able to use their national banking cards while travelling.
