Vaezi: Iran-Azerbaijan trade volume up by 70%

EghtesadOnline: Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi said 70 percent rise in Iran and Azerbaijan Republic trade shows the determination of the two countries officials to further develop relations.

He made the remarks in Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Commercial Conference on Thursday where he also noted that bilateral ties are speedily growing in various areas, IRNA reported.

“Iran and Azerbaijan boast numerous commonalities in terms of religion, culture and history, which are currently considered backbone of cooperation between the two countries,” he said.

Referring to signing of major documents in recent years by the two countries, Vaezi added that efforts are underway to facilitate business for the two countries’ traders.

Remarkable section of the infrastructures needed for facilitating trade between the two countries’ private sectors have already been prepared, with rail transportation as one of them, he said.

Using rail transportation, Iranian goods can be exported to Azerbaijan Republic and then to Commonwealth of Independent States, the minister said.

The next steps will be taken in the field of banking cooperation, he said, hoping that a joint document would be prepared before Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Tehran in the next few days.

Vaezi and Azerbaijan Minister of Economy and Industries Shahin Mustafayev arrived in Urumieh, West Azarbaijan, province on Thursday evening to take part in Iran-Azerbaijan Economic Conference.
