7,500 Km of Freeways by 2022

EghtesadOnline: The sixth five-year development plan stipulates that the total length of Iran’s freeways should reach 7,500 kilometers by 2022, which marks the end of the plan, the deputy for planning and resource management at the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development said.

“Currently, there are 2,500 kilometers of freeways across the country,” Amir Amini was also quoted as saying by IRNA. Between 800 and 1,000 kilometers of highways have been constructed across the country every year since 2013. This year (ending March 20, 2017), the figure is expected to reach 1,200 kilometers, according to Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, affiliated to the Roads Ministry. Currently 7,000 kilometers of highways are under construction across the country, the organization said. As many as 10,642 kilometers of roads have been built since 2013 when President Hassan Rouhani took office, according to Financial Tribune.
