According to a company press release, the tech center was launched on April 16.
It will offer scientific assistance and financial support to Iranian scholars and university students researching in the realm of smartphones and modern technology related to telecommunications.
The center will also accelerate the expansion of online business which is based on the use of mobile applications, Financial Tribune reported.
According to the press release, the center has a committee comprising representatives from Samsung and AUT professors to evaluate proposals for investment and support.
The center also has plans to offer training courses.
During the opening ceremony of the center, Farnaz Farzi, head of Samsung public relations office in Iran, said “The Samsung-AUT Tech center is in line with the company’s international Corporate Social Responsibility projects.”
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) refers to business practices involving initiatives that benefit society. It can encompass a wide variety of tactics, from giving away a portion of a company’s proceeds to charity, to implementing greener business operations.
During the same event AUT chief Ahmad Motamedi said “The university wants to build closer ties with international business through similar projects.”
Samsung will fund the center and AUT will provide work and office premises.
After the disastrous launch of Galaxy Note7, Samsung has launched several projects to mend the company’s public image.
Samsung Electronics the world’s second largest telecommunication related company invests almost 9% of its annual revenue in R&D projects.
The company has 24 R&D centers; six in South Korea and 18 in nine other countries, including the US, UK, Russia, India, Japan and China.
