Over 80 historic, pre-historic sites identified in Southern Iran

EghtesadOnline: Archaeological surveys in Khafar district of the city of Jahrom, Fars Province resulted in identifying 83 sites dating back to the pre-historic, historic and Islamic era, an official said.

Head of the exploration team Majid Mansouri made the remark in a meeting on the ‘report to the colleague’ which was held in the premises of the Research Institute, The Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) reported.

The archaeological surveys in Khafar area were conducted through collection of satellite pictures, aerial photos, and local information, he said.

According to IRNA, Mansouri pointed to the identification of 83 sites and monuments, stressed that the discovered zones belonged to the pre-historic, historic and Islamic eras.

The head of the archaeological team then explained some of the sites which have been discovered in this project and noted that during the exploration operations valuable objects have been found as well.

Mansouri added that Qara Aghaj Hill (Achaemenid, post-Achaemenid, Sassanid), 
Taghoon Hill (Sassanid and early Islamic), Tadvan Hill (post-Achaemenid and Middle Islamic centuries), Nokhodza Hill (Achaemenid), Shah Neshin Hill (Achaemenid to Sassanid), Khandaqi Hill (Achaemenid and post-Achaemenid), Talle Gachi (post-Achaemenid and Sassanid) etc. are among historical hills identified in the area.

He enlisted the discovered sites and objects dating back to the Islamic era as 9 cemeteries, 7 hills, 8 castles, 9 mills, 3 nomadic residential units, 5 waterways, 3 sites, 5 bathrooms, 2 dikes, 2 caravanserai, 1 grave and tribal tents.
