EghtesadOnline: The head of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Center in Kuala Lumpur emphasized, Iran has been very advanced in Embryonic stem cells with novel strategies of creating stem cells which were also very advanced in Iran and top of that Iran hosted the highest number of clinical trials in stem cells among the Muslim countries.

“Due to great hospitality of the host and the organizers, It’s been a wonderful trip and I’ll definitely attend in the next year conference,” Associate Professor Angela Min Hwei Ng said in an exclusive interview with ISNA on the sideline of the 2nd International Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine Congress which held in Ferdowsi University Of Mashhad, Iran.

“This trip is a start and I personally look forward to collaboration with Ferdowsi Unveristy in Mashhad and Royan institute in Tehran,” ISNA quoted her as saying.

She presented a lecture on “The Multifaceted Role of Mesenchymal Stem Cells” on the second day of this conference. She also had a panel course about Immune Modulatory Treatment. Her interest is in Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Clinical Trial.

“I’ve been focusing on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine where we translate the technology that enables us to bring cells from the bench into a therapeutic improvement for our patients. I’ve been in this field since 2004 when I started My PhD,” Angela Min Hwei Ng continued.

“As the head, I support all the research activities in the centre. My aim is to focus on regeneration of bones, nerves and cardiac tissue and in recent years I’ve taken interest in mutualizing centre technology driving tissues from stem cells to trying to introduce this to the patients as soon as possible” she said.

Tissue Engineering Centre (TEC), UKMMC has created a niche for itself as a pioneer institute in its field in Malaysia and has been actively involved in research and education in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

“Our Mission in TEC is to improve quality of life and provide cure for diseases by focusing on research, education, training, services and commercialization of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine related products and technologies,” Min Hwei went on to say.
