EghtesadOnline: The establishment of direct contact line between Iran and Pakistan was necessary because of the recent developments, border incidents and the 960 km long joint border between the two countries, Iranian ambassador to Islamabad Mehdi Honardoost emphasized.

On April 26, ten border guards of Mirjaveh County in Iran's Sistan-Baluchestan province were killed in an ambush by terrorists along the Pakistani border's zero-point. Following the incident, Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited Pakistan to consider the terrorist attack and develop cooperation in border issues.

The two sides also stressed on the necessity of holding the meetings of border security committee, the increase of Pakistani troops’ presence in the border areas and development of border cooperation.

“The establishment of the direct contact line between Tehran and Islamabad is necessary to accelerate contacts under the current situation. In most of the events, timing is so important and the authorities of the two countries should be in consultation to make the best decision in shortest time,” Honardoost said.
