EghtesadOnline: The government has invested 30 trillion rials ($800 million) in the past two Iranian years (March 2015-17) for the construction of freeways across the country, a deputy minister of roads and urban development said.

“Some 2,000 kilometers of freeways in the form of 10 projects are currently under construction,” Kheirollah Khademi was also quoted as saying by IRNA.

The sixth five-year development plan (2017-22) stipulates that the total length of Iran’s freeways should reach 7,500 kilometers by 2022, which marks the end of the plan. Currently, the country has 2,500 kilometers of freeways, according to Financial Tribune.
