The two sides are in talks to build oil and lubricant test laboratory in Sri Lanka using Iranian technology.
Although details of the primary agreement signed in the Sri Lankan capital were not made public, Iran has sought to expand relations with Asian countries in several areas, namely science and technology development.
The MOUs were signed on Thursday by Iran’s Ambassador Mohammad Zaeri Amirani and the Lankan Minister for Scientific Affairs Sosil Prima Jayanta, Fars News Agency reported on May 27.
During the meeting, according to Financial Tribune, the envoy conveyed Vice President Sourena Sattari’s – who heads science and technology matters for the presidential office -- message to the minister.
The Sri Lankan minister referred to his recent trip to Iran and called for building closer collaboration between the two nations.
In February 2016, Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian visited Sri Lanka to expand ties in water and electricity fields.
Chitchian visited Colombo at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart.
The minister also attended the Iran-Sri Lanka Joint Economic Commission meeting during the visit, accompanied by several private investors.
