Iran, Russia mulling expansion of communications ties

EghtesadOnline: Iran's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi on Friday conferred with Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolai Anatolyevich Nikiforov on expansion of economic and communications cooperation.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 21st St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2017) which opened late on Thursday.

Deputy Minister of Petroleum for International Affairs and Trading Amir-Hossein Zamaninia, Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Mohammad Khoddadi and Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei also attended the SPIEF 2017 public and special panels.

During the meeting, the two sides examined expansion of cooperation as well as boosting the level of cooperation in various fields. 

The Islamic Republic of Iran has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with TAT oil company and is committed to fulfill its pledges, Vaezi said. 

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed significant points in attaining new sciences as well as technological know-how such as digital economy and object Internet which all should be heeded and Tehran has no limit to broaden such cooperation with Russia, Vaezi said. 

Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media, for his part said Iran and Russia have signed a large number of agreements which all should be pursued and implemented.

The IRNA chief has been invited by TASS Russian News Agency Director General Sergei Mikhailov to participate the event.

The 21st St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2017) kicked off in the Russian cultural capital (St. Petersburg city) on Thursday.
