EghtesadOnline: Iran’s ambassador to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Alireza Jahangiri on Friday warned against political abuse of the organization by certain countries.

Addressing the 85th Session of OPCW Executive Council, Jahangiri complained about holding an extraordinary session of the Executive Council on Syria over the past week, describing it as a biased measure based on double-standard policies towards Syria crisis.

Jahangiri said that the session was an effort by certain countries to exploit “the technical and specialized organization” for reaching their own political objectives, IRNA reported.

He voiced concern about using chemical weapons by terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria, urging all member states to condemn such crimes.

Jahangiri underlined the necessity of adopting collective measures to prevent the use of chemical weapons by terrorist groups again.

The 85th Session of OPCW Executive Council opened in The Hague on July 11 and will come to an end on Friday.

The Executive Council is one of the main decision-making parts of OPCW.
