EghtesadOnline: Russian transportation vehicle manufacturing and engineering company Sinara Transport Machines will supply 17 locomotives to Iran in 2018, as part of a €24 million contract that has yet to be signed.

Russian news agency Sputnik added that the deal will be financially supported by Russian Export Center. Russia and Iran signed a €1.2 billion deal in December for the Russian side to supply equipment for the electrification of Garmsar-Inche Borun railroad in northern Iran. In 2009, Sinara Group formed a joint venture with German engineering giant Siemens to manufacture freight electric locomotives at Sinara’s Ural Locomotive near Ekaterinburg, Russia. Siemens is involved in many Iranian rail projects, including a 926-km electrification project from Tehran to the eastern city of Mashhad. Another Russian firm, United Wagon Company, has signed a deal to supply 6,000 wagons to Iran, according to Financial Tribune.
