Thermal power plants’ generation capacity to rise by 2,900 mw

EghtesadOnline: Iranian thermal power plants’ power generation capacity will increase by 2,900 megawatts by end of the current Iranian calendar year of 1396 (to end on March 21, 2018).

Deputy Head of Thermal Electricity Company (TEC) for Planning Affairs Hamid-Reza Azimi said on Tuesday that since start of the current year on March 21, 2017, the TEC has raised its generation capacity by 75 megawatts.

According to IRNA, Azimi disclosed initiation of executive operations this year on the basis of buy-back contracts to build steam sector of gas power plant with the capacity to generate 4,000 megawatts of power.

He pointed to construction of 12 electricity generation units with the capacity of producing 1,964 megawatts of power last year and said four units were built by government and eight others by the private sector.

Deputy Minister of Energy for Electricity and Energy Affairs Houshang Falahatian said within four years activity of the 11th government, 54 new power plant units were put into operation, which resulted 8,000 megawatt increase in the power generation capacity of the country’s power plants.

With operation of the 54 units, Iran’s power plants’ power generation capacity reached 77,000 megawatts.

Falahatian also announced that based on the schedule before next summer, 4,000 megawatts will be added to the electricity generation network of the country, so the total power generation capacity of the country’s power plants will reach 80,000 megawatts.
