EghtesadOnline: According to the latest report of the Statistical Center of Iran, there were 8,975,135 apartments across Iran, which accounted for 39.9% of all residential units by the end of the previous fiscal year (March 20, 2017).

This is while there are 13,854,850 villas in Iran, most of which are located outside Tehran, Eghtesad Online news website reported.

In the wake of the dramatic surge in Tehran’s land prices, skyscrapers and residential complexes became more popular since most first-time buyers could only afford small apartments.

As cited in the SCI report, almost 30% of residential units in Iran are smaller than 75 square meters while apartments measuring 50-75 square meters account for 21.7% of all residential units in the country, Financial Tribune reported.

The share of apartments smaller than 50 square meters stood at 9% whereas apartments larger than 500 square meters merely accounted for 0.1% of all residential units in the country.

However, SCI announced that about 100,000 people refused to declare the area of their houses.

As the report indicates, 30.9% of Iranian residential units have steel structures while 26.4% used concrete cores and 42.5% of houses employed other core structures.
