EghtesadOnline: The construction of the 6th Iran Gas Trunkline (IGAT-6)–a major component of the national gas grid–will be completed by the end of the year, a top gas official said.

"I-GAT-6 pipeline project is planned for completion before the beginning of winter," Hamidreza Araqi, managing director of National Iranian Gas Company, said after inspecting the development plan, Mehr News Agency reported on Friday. In July 2015, a build-operate-transfer contract to lay IGAT-6 was signed by Gas Engineering and Development Company and Pasargad Energy Development Company. The project includes laying over 600 kilometers of pipeline, in addition to installing five gas compressor stations, at an estimated cost of $2.2 billion. The pipeline will have the capacity to transfer 110 million cubic meters of gas a day from South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf to southern and western regions. Iran is currently exporting gas to Iraq from Naftshahr region in Kermanshah Province through a pipeline diverging from IGAT-6, Financial Tribune reported.
