EghtesadOnline: Minister of Agriculture Mahmoud Hojjati said the government will cover 85% of the expenses involved in modernization of irrigation systems in farms and orchards across the country in the form of subsidies.

The minister added that unlimited banking facilities will be granted to farmers in this regard. “In the last four years, modern irrigation systems were installed over 400,000 hectares of farms and this year 60,000 hectares have been equipped,” Hojjati was quoted as saying by IRNA. The government has considered close to 33 trillion rials ($865.5 million) in budget to modernize irrigation systems in Iran’s farms and orchards in the current fiscal year (started March 21), of which 5 trillion rials ($131.1 million) have already been allocated, Deputy Agriculture Minister Alimorad Akbari said earlier this month, according to Financial Tribune.
