Private Sector Dominates Confectionery Industry

EghtesadOnline: Iran’s confectionery industry has about 1,100 active production units, over 95% of which belong to the private sector.

According to Chairman of Agriculture Commission of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture Kaveh Zargaran, Iran annually produces over 1.9 million tons of confectionery, the news portal of TCCIM reported.

He made the statements during a visit to the 16th Iran International Confectionery Fair held at Tehran’s International Permanent Fairgrounds on September 15-18. The official noted that the Iranian confectionery industry has 16%, 10% and 20% share in the country’s employment, value added and food exports respectively. According to Zargaran, Iran exported $242 million worth of chocolate, $117 million worth of biscuits, $27 million worth of waffles and wafers, and $14 million worth of chewing gum in the last Iranian year (March 2016-17), Financial Tribune reported.
