Int’l Animal Feed Producers to Visit

EghtesadOnline: Board members of the International Feed Industry Federation are scheduled to visit Iran in early 2018 to explore expansion of commercial ties and the possibility of embarking on joint production of livestock, poultry and fish feed in the country, the chairman of Iran Feed Association said.

Majid Movafeq Qadiri added that board members of the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation (FEFAC) will also pay a visit to Iran within a month, Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture’s news portal reported.

IFIF represents the global feed industry as an essential participant in the food chain that provides sustainable, safe, nutritious and affordable food for a growing world population, according to its website.

Overall, IFIF members handle over 80% of the compound animal feed production worldwide. They consist of 24 national associations in 23 EU member states as full members and associations in Switzerland, Turkey, Norway, Serbia and Russia with observer/associate member status, according to Financial Tribune.

Its mission, according to the website, is to represent and promote the interests of the European compound feed industry worldwide.

The animal feed industry in Iran got off the ground about 64 years ago concurrent with the industrialization of animal husbandry and poultry farming in the country. Today, local production meets 99% of domestic demand.

According to Agriculture Ministry official, Touraj Sarem, Iran exported livestock feed worth $173 million in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2017), registering a 33% increase compared with the year before.

The export destinations mainly included the UAE, Iraq, Turkmenistan, Oman, Turkey and Qatar

Iran annually imports raw materials worth $2-3 billion (depending on the amount and type of products) for the production of animal feed, mainly from Brazil, Argentina, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
