After its successful experience in delivering services in several major cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, Karaj, Shiraz, Mashhad and Qom, Snapp launched its services in Tabriz on Oct. 23, local technology website Webna reported.
Snapp, established in 2014, is co-owned by Germany’s Rocket Internet and MTN-Irancell through its holding company, Iran Internet Group.
It has had a tough rivalry with other ride-hailing service providers like Tap30 and Carpino in Tehran and other major cities, according to Financial Tribune.
Like the famous ride-hailing app Uber, the firms do not employ drivers directly and instead use freelancers.
Snapp is certain to face off with a Tabriz-based ride-hailing service Qonqa (meaning “horse-drawn carriage” in Azari) that is vastly popular with the city’s residents since its introduction in 2016.
Qonqa offers ride-hailing services through Android and iOS applications and is available for download on local app markets Café Bazaar, SibApp and the Google Play Store. The app has been downloaded more than 20,000 times from Café Bazaar.
According to data released by Qonqa, some 1,200 drivers have joined its workforce since it was launched.
