"As of next month, a 70-kilometer pipeline with 20-inch diameter will transfer gas from the city of Bafq to Behabad and its surrounding villages and industrial units. Behabad is the only town in Yazd not yet connected to the national gas network," Hassan Montazer-Torbati was quoted as saying by the Oil Ministry's news agency.
“The pipeline was planned for construction in 2012, but operational works commenced three years later,” he said.
The project has been implemented at a cost of over 800 billion rials (about $19 million), according to Financial Tribune.
Parsian Gas Refinery, one of the country’s largest refineries in terms of production, provides gas to Yazd, Fars, Isfahan and Qom provinces as well as parts of Tehran.
Government data show the country is producing over 800 million cubic meters of gas daily, more than two-thirds of which come from South Pars, a major natural gas deposit it shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf.
