EghtesadOnline: The recruitment process of taxi app companies is undergoing change as job applicants are now assessed by the police.

According to news website Digiato, the police have established an online system through which it will evaluate drivers who want to join the ride-hailing companies. Henceforth, approving or rejecting the applications is the function of the Law Enforcement Forces.

Ride-hailing companies are now required to upload applicants’ personal information on the online system. Within two days after registration the company receives the LEF a response.

The new system alerts the police and the firms if the applicant had ever been arrested, even if not found guilty. Prior to this, drivers’ background checks for employment by online taxi companies focused on cases when the applicant was convicted of a crime, Financial Tribune reported.

CEO of ride-hailing service Tap30 Milad Monshipur says henceforth it is the LEF that will determine whether or not an individual is qualified for the job.

“We have also setup a mechanism for driver evaluation which has a direct relationship with the motorists’ attitude and customer feedback,” he said. After employment if a driver fails to meet the expected evaluations the person will be fired.

Lack of strong supervision in the recruitment process of online taxi drivers has led to cases of harassment in the past with the public demanding stricter controls over the employment of drivers.
