Borgward is a is a German-based automobile brand, which is backed up financially by Chinese truck manufacturer Foton.

The BX7 aims to tap into the fascination of Iranians for SUVs. The vehicle carries a seven-year guarantee. The model was first unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in 2015. It is powered by a turbocharged 2-liter inline-four engine producing 225 horsepower. Power is delivered to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. During the Tehran Auto Show held in Nov. 2017, Kian Motor showcased the model, according to Financial Tribune.

A 12.3-inch infotainment system called ‘Multiple Interaction’ interface provides connectivity for Apple and Android devices, as well as a WiFi hot-spot function.

While in the international market customers can order configured versions of the BX7 with five, six, or seven seats, only the seven-seat version is available in Iran.

Furthermore, the vehicle features front airbags for both the driver and passenger, side and curtain side airbags for the second row, standard safety belts for the third-row seats, and child seat anchorage points.

Local company Kian Motor Varna has signed a contract with Borgward, as per which if the sales are successful Borgward might set up a production plant in Iran.

In an interview with the Financial Tribune in Dec 2017, the company’s senior vice president for global marketing, Tom Anliker said that in the initial phase, completely built units will be imported into Iran and if successful, the company will set up assembly lines.
