Iranian Year Ends With Single Digit Inflation

EghtesadOnline: The average goods and services Consumer Price Index for urban areas in the 12 months ending March 20, which marks the end of the last Iranian month of Esfand, increased by 9.6% compared with last year’s corresponding period, according to the latest report released by the Central Bank of Iran.

CBI had put the inflation rate for the preceding month of Bahman, which ended on Feb. 19 at 9.9%. The overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) stood at 114.7 in Esfand, indicating a 1.1% increase compared with the previous month. The index registered a year-on-year increase of 8.3% compared with the similar month of last year.  The CBI report came after the Statistical Center of Iran put Esfand inflation at 8.2%, indicating a decrease of 0.1% compared to last month. SCI put urban and rural inflation at 8.1% and 8.8% respectively, which registers a 0.1% and 0.3% decrease compared to last month. The overall CPI, according to SCI and using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year, stood at 111.4, up 0.2% compared to last month. For urban and rural areas, the index stood at 111.4 and 111.5, marking a 0.2% and 0.4% growth compared to last month respectively. The year-on-year increase was 7.2% for the whole country, 7.3% for urban areas and 6.2% for rural areas compared with last year’s same month, indicating a decrease of 1% for the whole country, 1.1% for urban areas and 1.2% for rural areas, Financial Tribune reported.
