EghtesadOnline: As part of its commitment to improve transparency about its performance, Tehran Municipality unveiled a first-of-its-kind website, Shafaf.tehran.ir, on Tuesday.

The website offers viewers a full overview of its major contracts, including those worth over 10 billion rials ($166,000) and details of the capital city’s current fiscal spending package. This may well be one of Tehran Mayor Mohammad Ali Najafi’s biggest legacies, despite his short-lived tenure as the mayor of Tehran. On Tuesday, Tehran City Council accepted Najafi’s resignation citing “health issues” and appointed Samiollah Makarem as caretaker. The outgoing MIT-educated mayor was overwhelmingly elected as Tehran mayor in August and officially took office in September. Najafi replaced Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf who held the post for 12 years, according to Financial Tribune.
