EghtesadOnline: Some $104 million in foreign direct investment were signed into agreement to be invested in Markazi Province in western Iran in the last fiscal year (March 2017-18).

“The investments were made in nine projects in solar energy, metal, construction and pharmaceutical sectors,” said director general of Markazi Economic Affairs and Finance Organization, Hassan Mirzakhani. Noting that nearly $18.5 million of the foreign investments have been attracted up until now, the official added that the construction of two solar power plants in Khomeyn and Mahallat are among these projects, IRNA reported.  Markazi Province is one of the 31 provinces of Iran.  “With 7.3%, it had the lowest unemployment rate in Iran during the first half of the last Iranian year (March 2017-18),” Mahmoud Nemati, an official with the central province’s Governor-General’s Office, said.

More than $840 million worth of non-oil products were exported from Markazi Province to more than 50 countries last year. Afghanistan, Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan and Turkmenistan had the biggest share of the exports. Petrochemicals, metal, insulating roof coatings, fiber, flowers and plants, crystals, potato chips and water heaters are main exports from the province, Financial Tribune reported.
