Agriculture Minister Attends FAO Confab

EghtesadOnline: Iran’s Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati participated in the 34th Session of FAO Regional Conference for the Near East in the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations headquarters in Rome on Thursday and Friday.

According to the minister, climate change and regional governments’ cooperation to battle its consequences, agro-ecology, changes in West Asian and African agro sectors, challenges posed by youth unemployment and migration as well as cross-border contagion of plant, livestock and fish diseases were surveyed during the event, IRNA reported.

High-ranking officials from 28 countries took part in the conference that was held from May 7-11. 

FAO Regional Conferences are official forums where ministers of agriculture and senior officials of member countries from the same geographic region meet to discuss regional challenges and priority issues related to food and agriculture. The main role of the conferences is to promote regional understanding on global policies and political issues, according to Financial Tribune.
