IMIDRO Outlines Steel Sector’s Monthly Performance

EghtesadOnline: A total of 3.88 million tons of iron ore concentrate was produced in Iran during the first month of the current fiscal year (March 21-April 20), to register a 30% growth compared with last year’s similar period.

According to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization’s latest report, Gologhar Mining and Industrial Complex accounted for 1.54 million tons of the total output, followed by Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex with 748,919 tons, Middle East Mines and Mining Industries Development Holding Company with 503,130 tons, Iran Central Iron Ore Company with 460,689 tons, Goharzamin Iron Ore Company with 379,986 tons and Opal Parsian Sangan with 240,051 tons.

Production of granulated iron during the same period stood at 355,255 tons, down 27% year-on-year.

Pellet output hit 3.14 million tons, up 24% YOY. Golgohar was the largest producer with 1.08 million tons, followed by Mobarakeh Steel Company with 675,620 tons, Khouzestan Steel Company with 611,534 tons, Chadormalu with 357,659 tons and MIDHCO with 415,985 tons, Financial Tribune reported.

The production of direct-reduced iron stood at 1.75 million tons, up 12% YOY. Mobarakeh had the lion’s share with 685,137 tons, followed by KSC with 345,638 tons, South Kaveh Steel Company with 144,176 tons, Hormozgan Steel Company with 148,728 tons, Khorasan Steel Company with 118,061 tons, Saba Steel Complex with 98,183 tons, Ghadir Iron and Steel Company with 68,522 tons, MIDHCO with 76,262 tons, Sefiddasht Steel Complex with 53,481 tons and Esfahan Steel Company with 18,536 tons.

From the above raw material, a total of 1.68 million tons of slab, bloom, billet and ingot were produced during the period under review, showing a rise of 23% YOY. 

Mobarakeh Steel Company, with its subsidiaries Saba and Hormozgan Steel, was the biggest producer with 857,436 tons. KSC came next with 342,862 tons, followed by ESCO with 210,188 tons, Khorasan Steel Company with 91,120 tons, South Kaveh Steel Company with 92,122 tons, Chadormalu with 67,103 tons and Iran Alloy Steel Company with 24,216 tons. 

All producers posted growth for the period, with the exception of IASCO whose output dropped by 35%. 

A total of 961,837 tons of finished steel products, including hot- and cold-rolled coils, rebar, beams, pipes, wide and galvanized sheets were produced last month, up 10% YOY. MSC and its subsidiary Saba Steel had the largest share of production with 597,280 tons, followed by ESCO with 195,121 tons, Oxin Steel Company with 61,167 tons, Khorasan Steel Company with 56,281 tons, IASCO with 14,157 tons, Azarbaijan Steel Company with 26,825 tons, Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Automotive Sheet Company with 10,528 tons and INSIG with 478 tons.
