EghtesadOnline: The restriction on the import of Iranian chicken by Afghanistan is to be lifted soon following negotiations between the two countries, the head of Iran Veterinary Organization said.

According to Alireza Rafipour, after meeting with Afghan authorities and presenting them documents proving the containment of the deadly avian flu in Iran, the Afghan side, in cooperation with the head of Afghanistan Veterinary Organization, agreed to remove the restriction and the first cargo is soon to be exported to the neighboring country, IRNA reported.

The chicken to be exported is expected to be sent from Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan provinces.

“The recent avian flu outbreak infecting Iranian poultry farms has been contained and IVO has not received any new report of infection in the past two or three weeks,” announced Hamid Varnasseri, the CEO of Livestock Affairs Support Company, affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture, in March, according to Financial Tribune.

The outbreak, which started in mid-autumn, had led to the cull of 27 million chickens and inflicted losses amounting to half a billion dollars.

Iranian poultry farms are hit by avian flu every year.
