The average goods and services Consumer Price Index in the 12-month period ending May 21, which marks the end of the Iranian month of Ordibehesht, increased by 8.2% for the first (those with the lowest income), second, seventh and eighth deciles, whereas it rose by 7.9% for the 10th decile (those with the highest income), compared with last year’s corresponding period.
The inflation rate for the third to sixth deciles stood at 8.3% and 8.1% respectively for the ninth decile.
The inflation gap between deciles reduced to 0.4% in Ordibehesht compared with the previous month’s 0.8%, Financial Tribune reported.
The highest overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) stood at 114.7 for the seventh decile and the lowest index was 113.8 for the first decile.
The year-on-year inflation rates increased by 6.8% for the first decile, 7.5% for second,7.9% for third, 8.1% for fourth, 8.2% for fifth, 8.4% for sixth, 8.6% for seventh, 8.8% for eighth, 9% for ninth and 9.2% for the 10th decile.
Income deciles are groupings that result from ranking either all households or all persons in the population in the ascending order according to income, and then dividing the population into 10 groups, each comprising approximately 10% of the estimated population.
