8% Decline in Iran Airport Traffic

EghtesadOnline: Iran Airports Company registered 35,259 takeoffs and landings during the Iranian month ending May 21, which shows an 8% decrease compared with last year’s corresponding period.

Close to 4.27 million passengers and 39,262 tons of cargo were transported during the period, indicating a 13% year-on-year decline in both, IAC reported on its website.

As for domestic flights, 29,238 takeoffs and landings were registered, down 7% YOY.

More than 3.41 million passengers and 22,976 tons of goods were transported domestically, indicating a 12% decline for both over the last year’s corresponding period, according to Financial Tribune.

On the international front, 6,021 takeoffs and landings were registered, going down by 12% year-on-year.

A total of 862,706 passengers and 16,286 tons of cargo were transported to and from overseas destinations, posting a 17% and 13% decline respectively YOY.

Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport was the busiest domestic airport during the period, registering 11,585 takeoffs and landings, up by 2% YOY. More than 1.37 million passengers and 8,626 tons of cargo were transported via this airport, indicating a 5% increase and a 22% decrease respectively YOY. 

Mashhad International Airport was the second busiest airport during the period under review with 5,255 takeoffs and landings, down 6% YOY. The airport transported more than 761,927 passengers and 6,928 tons of cargo, down by 6% and 11% respectively YOY. 

Imam Khomeini International Airport registered 4,024 takeoffs and landings, while transporting 599,834 passengers and 11,506 tons of cargo to register a decline of 30%, 33%, and 28% respectively YOY.

Iran Airports Company is an arm of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, which manages 54 airports across the country.
