EghtesadOnline: A memorandum of understanding for cooperation in sea cage fish farming was signed between the Department of Environment’s deputy for marine environment affairs, Parvin Farshchi, and the head of Iran Fisheries Organization, Hassan Salehi, on Saturday.

Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati and the head of DOE, Isa Kalantari, also attended the ceremony, Mehr News Agency reported.

“There are a lot of requests, from the private sector in particular, to start cage fish farming businesses. This MoU will help us manage these requests, oversee the activities of these businesses in the country’s water bodies and protect the sea from the harms that different kinds and quantities of feed, equipment and fish species may cause,” Farshchi said.

The DOE official added that the agreement also concerns the preservation of aquatic species, reduction of pressure on aquatic resources caused by ocean fish harvest, job creation and the adoption of a responsible approach toward using natural resources, according to Financial Tribune.
