Decline in Rice Imports

EghtesadOnline: Around 379,000 tons of rice worth $375 million were imported during the first three months of the current year (March 21-June 21), showing 7.9% and 1.3% decrease in volume and value respectively compared with the corresponding period last year, latest figures released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration show.

This rice purchases accounted for 4.45% and 3.33% of the weight and value of Iran’s total imports over the period respectively, Mehr News Agency reported.

Iranians consume 3.2 million tons of rice every year. Domestic production stands at 2.2 million tons, according to Financial Tribune.
