4% Decline in Iran Airport Traffic

EghtesadOnline: Iran Airports Company registered a total of 33,451 takeoffs and landings during the Iranian month ending June 21, which shows a 4% decline compared with last year’s corresponding period.

Close to 3.86 million passengers and 36,936 tons of cargo were transported during the period, indicating a 5% year-on-year decrease while the volume of cargo transport remained unchanged, IAC reported on its website.

As for domestic flights, 27,766 takeoffs and landings were registered, down 3% YOY. More than 3.09 million passengers and 21,894 tons of goods were transported domestically, indicating a 6% decline and 1% growth respectively year-on-year.

On the international front, 5,685 takeoffs and landings were registered, down by 7% YOY. A total of 773,508 passengers and 15,042 tons of cargo were transported to and from overseas destinations, posting a 4% and 1% decrease respectively YOY, Financial Tribune reported.

Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport was the busiest domestic airport during the period, registering 10,628 takeoffs and landings, which marks an 8% decline YOY. More than 1.2 million passengers and 8,065 tons of cargo were transported at this airport, indicating a 12% and 7% decrease respectively YOY. 

Mashhad International Airport was the second busiest airport during the period under review with 5,268 takeoffs and landings, unchanged compared to last year’s similar period. More than 729,857 passengers and 6,316 tons of cargo were moved at the airport, down by 4% and 9% respectively YOY. 

Imam Khomeini International Airport registered 4,061 takeoffs and landings, while transporting 587,332 passengers and 11,210 tons of cargo to register an increase of 1%, and declines of 2% and 3% respectively YOY.

Iran Airports Company is an arm of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, which manages 54 airports across the country.
