EghtesadOnline: Thirty-four containers of contraband fuel were confiscated in the southern Hormozgan Province’s Shahid Rajaee Port last week, the director general of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization said.

“The waybill falsely stated that the shipments were monoethylene glycol [used in the manufacture of polyester fibers and for antifreeze formulations],” Allahmorad Afifipour was also quoted as saying by IRNA on Saturday.

The smugglers were planning to send the containers to India, he added.

Iranian fuel is smugglers’ favorite because of its cheap subsidized price compared to that in many other countries of the region and the world, according to Financial Tribune.

Located 23 kilometers west of the port city of Bandar Abbas, Shahid Rajaee Port is Iran’s biggest container port at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz. Over half of Iran’s commercial trading is carried out there. The port complex accounts for over 85% of all container throughput in the country.
