According to ISNA, Pars Oil and Gas Company and Mehran Engineering and Well Services carried out the project for the first time in Iran using Northern Genesis, an offshore supply vessel specially designed to provide anchor handling services and to tow offshore platforms.
The successful operation was the result of two years of studies, engineering, design and risk analysis by domestic firms.
The news agency added that all stages of the project, including planning and design as well as simulation, have been implemented by a joint workgroup made up of the two companies’ experts, according to Financial Tribune.
The elimination of the need to use a rig in providing well services reduced cost and time of the venture and increased mobility, indicate domestic firms’ potential in offering modern and effective solutions for optimizing production from offshore wells.
The method enjoys some advantages, one of which is that it requires no platform modification for installing base king post to hang burner boom, a truss structure that carries pipeline to connect the ship well test pipeline and burner on the tip end.
In addition, flexibility to position the vessel at a distance to have less heat radiation effects on the platform, maneuvering capabilities of the vessel to adjust itself with the wind direction while flaring, less interface, footprint as well as faster safety abandonment are other merits of the state-of-the-art method over the conventional ways of providing well services.
The National Iranian Drilling Company’s Deputy Managing Director Alireza Laiji told Shana earlier this month that the state-owned company has carried out 1,916 operations for domestic firms, including a wide range of oil- and gas-related services, in the first quarter of the current Iranian year (started March 21).
“NIDC’s department of drilling services, well stimulation and cementing services as well as special services department undertook most of the operations,” Laiji said.
