Seafood Exports Earn $50m in 2 Months

EghtesadOnline: About 16,000 tons of seafood worth close to $50 million were exported from Iran during the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21-May 21). Isa Golshahi, director general of Seafood Quality Improvement, Processing and Market Promotion Department affiliated to Iran Fisheries Organization, made the announcement.

The main export destinations for Iranian seafood were Vietnam, China, Thailand, Taiwan, the UAE, Iraq, Russian, Azerbaijan and Armenia, Young Journalists Club reported.

Golshahi added that exports are estimated to reach 145,000 tons by the end of the current fiscal year (March 20, 2019) to register a 10% increase compared to the year before.

Last year’s (March 2017-18) exports stood at 137,580 tons worth $507 million, registering a 24% and 22% growth in weight and value respectively compared with the preceding year, Financial Tribune reported.

Shrimp exports stood at a record high of 24,780 tons worth $116 million, registering a 64% and 67% growth in volume and value respectively year-on-year.
