EghtesadOnline: Iran’s Guardians Council ruled an anti-money laundering bill passed by the parliament to be inconsistent with the Iranian Constitution and Islamic law, sending it back to the legislature for revision.

“Four articles in the bill were found to be incompatible with the Islamic law and constitution, so it was returned to the Majlis for revision,” Abbasali Kadkhodaei, the council’s spokesman, said in a tweet on Friday. He did not elaborate on the four items. The Guardians Council comprises six appointed clerics and six elected jurists tasked with vetting any legislation approved by the parliament. The bill is part of the reforms required of Iran to quit the blacklist of the Financial Action Task Force, an inter-governmental organization that underpins regimes combating money laundering and terrorist financing. Earlier this month, the council approved legal amendments on combating the funding of terrorism. FATF has given Iran until October to implement the needed reforms, according to Financial Tribune.
