The construction of the new terminal, with an area of 8,100 square meters, was started in the fiscal March 2012-13 and the credit allocated for it amounts to 600 billion rials ($7.55 million), the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development news service reported.
According to Hashemi, when the new terminal becomes operational, four airplanes can land and take off simultaneously.
The airport operates an average of four flights daily to Tehran, Mashhad and the shrines of six Shia Imams in the four cities of Iraq, namely Najaf, Karbala, Kadhimiya and Samarra, according to Financial Tribune.
The renovation of the airport’s main runway (3,400 square meters) is expected to be completed within 15 months.
