Q1 Red Meat Output at 98,800 tons

EghtesadOnline: Iran’s red meat output during the three months to June 21 amounted to 98,800 tons to register a 0.08% decline year-on-year, a new report released by the Statistical Center of Iran said.

According to the report, there are 382 livestock slaughterhouses in the country. 

Fars Province has the highest share with 35 slaughterhouses, while the provinces of Alborz, Zanjan and Qom have the lowest share with only two.

Production of sheep meat, goat meat, beef, buffalo meat and ostrich meat stood at 34,188 tons (down 0.2% YOY), 6,500 tons (down 0.15% YOY), 55,374 tons (up 0.02% YOY), 1,022 tons (unchanged YOY) and 1,685 tons (up 0.38% YOY) respectively, according to Financial Tribune.

Last year’s (March 2017-18) domestic production of red meat in Iran stood at 429,000 tons, registering a 4% decline compared to the year before. Beef took the lion’s share from the total output with 223,000 tons (52%), followed by sheep meat with 162,000 tons (37.6%), goat meat with 34,000 tons (7.8%) and meat from other livestock with 11,000 tons (2.65%).

The above statistics only take into account data gathered from officially-registered slaughterhouses in Iran.
