EghtesadOnline: More than 1,600 tons of shrimps have been produced in 45 farms in the southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan Province’s port city of Chabahar since the beginning of the current Iranian year on March 21, of which around 501 tons have been exported.

The figures show a 56.1% and 56.5% increase respectively, according to the director of Chabahar’s Veterinary Organization.

“Shrimps produced in Chabahar are of the litopenaeus vannamei [whiteleg] species and each kilo of which is valued at about $5 in the international markets. Our export destinations were Thailand, the UAE, Oman and Hong Kong,” Oliya Mirlashari was quoted as saying by IRNA on Tuesday.

Shrimp harvest season starts around July 22 and lasts until Sept. 22, according to Financial Tribune.
