EghtesadOnline: Home video sales of Soureh Pictures–a major producer and distributor of Iranian feature and short films in Iran–are down 50%, thanks to a rise in the prices of DVDs, the head of the company said.

The depreciation of Iranian rial against the US dollar and the rising costs of raw materials, including polycarbonate and cardboard, have pushed up DVD prices from 60,000 rials (36 cents) to 100,000 rials (61 cents) over the past few months and consequently depressed demand for home videos, he was quoted as saying by the Persian daily Donya-e Eqtesad.

The Iranian rial has lost more than two-thirds of its value since last year, according to Financial Tribune.
