Mohammad Hadi Ziyaei, director general of Khorasan Razavi Railway Organization, added that this marks a 57% growth compared with the similar period of last year.
"Out of the total sum, around 26% (322,000 tons) pertained to exports that mainly headed for Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan," Ziyaei was quoted as saying by IRNA.
The main exported commodities included cement, plastic products, construction material, paint, foodstuff and industrial products, according to Financial Tribune.
”Imports accounted for 6% (102,000 tons) of the figure. The main imported goods were cotton, livestock feed, grains and industrial products over the six-month period, which were purchased from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan," he said.
Ziyaei added that transit during the period amounted to around 66% (831,000 tons) of the total sum.
The main transited commodities were cotton, sulfur and chemical fertilizers that were loaded in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan for the most part.
Last year (March 2017-18), 1.97 million tons of commodities were transported through the Sarakhs border crossing.
