EghtesadOnline: The Market Regulation Headquarters has given the go-ahead to domestic household appliance companies to launch online presales of their products, a spokesman of Home Appliances Manufacturers Union said on Monday.

“Today, Iranian consumers are hoarding home appliances, out of concern for further price rises and scarcity. On the other hand, the imposition of US sanctions and government’s import-restrictive policies have given rise to cases of profiteering by the middlemen. The prices have been jacked up by 100% at times,” Hamidreza Ghaznavi was also quoted as saying by ILNA.

Ghaznavi noted that the presale of 160 products, including refrigerators, freezers and stoves, has been planned in two ways: definitive purchase agreement and presale through partnership.

"Under the definitive purchase agreement, the total price of the item should be paid to the company while the buyer is entitled to a 2% discount for each month of delay in receiving the product. Consumers can get a 25% late fee if the company fails to deliver the product on time," Financial Tribune quoted him as saying.

A 50% down payment is required, if the buyer decides to go for presale through partnership. The rest of the payment is calculated as per the prevailing price, plus a “participatory” profit of 18%. There will be a monthly quota for presales and buyers are required to provide their national identification number when registering, Ghaznavi said.

A look at the website of a leading local producer of home appliance, which started the presale of its products on Tuesday, shows it had a remarkably successful online presale in the Iranian month of Mehr (Sept. 23-Oct. 22).
