EghtesadOnline: More than 7.65 million tons of cement and clinker were exported from Iran during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Oct. 22) to register a 10.2% increase compared with the similar period of last year.

IRNA also quoted the secretary of the Cement Association, Abdolreza Sheikhan, as saying that more than 50% of exports go to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sheikhan told Fars News Agency that cement accounted for 3.8 million tons of the exports.

The official added that cement exports experienced a 7% rise over last year's corresponding period, adding that a decline in exports is expected in the coming months due to reimposed US sanctions on Iran as well as expectations of an increase in local and international transportation fees, Financial Tribune reported.

Sheikhan said close to 37.29 million tons of clinker and more than 32.22 million tons of cement were produced in Iran during the same period.

Earlier, it was reported that around 227,000 tons of cement were exported to Uzbekistan through Sarakhs border crossing in Khorasan Razavi Province during the same seven months under review.

The volume accounted for 82% of all Iranian cement exported via railroad over the period, which makes Uzbekistan the biggest rail export destination for the construction material.

According to Mohammad Hadi Ziyaeimehr, director general of Khorasan Razavi Railroad Organization, 247,000 tons of cement were exported to Central Asian countries via railroad through Sarakhs border terminal over the period, which shows a 243% surge year-on-year, IRNA reported.

Ziyaeimehr noted that Sarakhs border crossing accounts for 90% of Iran’s cement exports through railroads.
