Kurdestan Exports Up 63%

EghtesadOnline: More than 1.59 million tons of goods worth $1.35 billion were exported from the western Kurdestan Province during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2018-Jan. 20), showing a 45% and 63% growth in weight and value respectively compared to last year's corresponding period.

According to Director General of Kurdestan Customs Offices Bakhtiar Rahmanipour, around $775 million worth of commodities went to Iraq, making it the province's biggest export destination.

Following Iraq were Afghanistan with $6 million, Russia with $318,000, the UAE with $222,000 and Pakistan with $152,000, IRNA reported.

Kurdestan, one of the 31 Iranian provinces, is located in the west of Iran bordering Iraq to the west, the province of West Azarbaijan to its north, Zanjan to the northeast, Hamedan to the east and Kermanshah to the south. The capital of Kurdestan Province is the city of Sanandaj, according to Financial Tribune.

The major preoccupations of its inhabitants are agriculture and livestock breeding. Wheat, barley, grains and fruits are its main agricultural products. Chemical, metal, textile, leather and food industries are the prime industrial activities of this province.
