Iran: Over $1b Worth of Rice Imported in 10 Months

EghtesadOnline: About 1.11 million tons of rice worth around $1.1 billion were imported into Iran during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2018-Jan. 20), which shows a 0.89% decline in weight and 4.41% rise in value compared with the similar period of last year.

According to latest data released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, this amount of rice purchases accounted for 4.29% and 3.09% of the volume and value of Iran’s total imports respectively over the period, Mehr News Agency reported. 

Iran’s rice imports are made mainly from the UAE, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey and Iraq.

Iranians consume 3.2 million tons of rice per annum while domestic production stands at 2.2 million tons, according to Financial Tribune.
