Viewing Highest, Lowest Inflation Among Iranian Provinces

EghtesadOnline: Kurdestan Province’s goods and services Consumer Price Index registered an increase of 63.4% during the first Iranian month (March 21-April 20) compared with the similar month of last year, the highest among all provinces.

The year-on-year CPI increase was the lowest for Qom with 43.2%, the Statistical Center of Iran reported.  

The overall goods and services CPI in Iran registered a YOY increase of 51.4% in the same month. 

The overall CPI calculated for the country (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) stood at 170.9, indicating a 4% rise compared with the previous month, according to Financial Tribune.

The growth in overall CPI compared with the previous month (Feb. 20-March 20) was the highest for Ardabil (7%) and lowest for Tehran (3%).   

The average goods and services CPI of the country in the 12-month period ending April 20, increased by 30.6% compared with last year’s corresponding period. 

Kurdestan saw the highest average annual inflation with 36.5% while Kerman posted the lowest 12-month inflation of 25.4. 

The annual inflation gap for all Iranian households among provinces was 11.1% in the same month, indicating a 1% increase compared with the previous month.

According to SCI, the highest monthly inflation among 12 groups of goods and services was recorded for the “foods and beverages” with a 9% increase. “Transportation” was the only consumer services group with a 0.8% monthly deflation rate. 

The “tobacco” group registered the highest and “education” posted the lowest year-on-year CPI increase with 123.4% and 21.2% respectively.

The average annual inflation rate of the “tobacco” group was the highest with 111% and that of “housing, water, electricity, natural gas and other fuels” and “education” had the slowest annual inflation rate with an 18.2% rise.

 

 

Urban Households 

The overall CPI calculated for urban areas stood at 169.3 in the month ending April 20, indicating a 3.7% rise compared with the previous month. 

The growth in the overall CPI measured for urban households compared with the previous month was the highest (6.4%) for Bushehr and Ardabil provinces and lowest (2.6%) for Fars.   

The index registered an average YOY increase of 50% for urban areas. 

Goods and services Consumer Price Index for the urban areas of Bushehr registered a YOY increase of 62% during the month to April 20, the highest among all provinces. 

The year-on-year CPI increase of urban areas was the lowest for Fars with 42.7%.

The average goods and services CPI for urban areas in the 12-month period ending April 20 increased by 30.2% compared with last year’s corresponding period. 

Ilam registered the highest 12-month inflation of urban areas with 36.1% while Hormozgan posted the lowest 12-month inflation of 25.1%. 

Annual inflation gap among the urban areas of provinces was 11%, indicating a 1% increase compared with the month before.

 

 

Rural Households

The overall CPI calculated for rural areas stood at 180.1 in the same period, indicating a 5.8% rise compared with the previous month. 

The growth in the overall CPI of rural areas compared with the previous month was highest (8.7%) for Ardabil Province and lowest (3%) for Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province.   

The index registered an average YOY increase of 59.4% for rural areas. 

The rural areas of Kurdestan’s goods and services CPI registered a YOY increase of 71.8% during the first month of the Iranian year, the highest among all provinces. 

The year-on-year CPI increase of rural areas was the lowest for Hormozgan with 48.3%.

The average goods and services CPI of rural areas of the country in the 12-month period ending April 20 increased by 32.6% compared with last year’s corresponding period. 

Kurdestan registered the highest 12-month inflation of rural areas with 39.3% while Kerman posted the lowest 12-month inflation of 25.9%. 

Annual inflation gap among rural areas was 13.4% in the month ending April 20, indicating a 0.3% increase compared with the previous month.
