EghtesadOnline: An innovation center has been launched at the University of Tehran.

The center, which was inaugurated on Sunday, is aimed at boosting the development of knowledge-based products and services.

The innovation center has already housed over 30 teams of students of higher education levels or graduates in technical fields. The project is to expand in future, IRNA reported.

Each team will be able to use the center’s facilities for a year; they are expected to conduct research, develop knowledge-based products and prepare for entering the market. They are also encouraged to forge ties with major technology firms, according to Financial Tribune.

Visiting the center, Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari emphasized that technological improvement and knowledge-based products are the results of interdisciplinary researches.

"The innovation center is to provide researchers and students with facilities and space to expand their ideas and develop more technological products," he said.

Sattari emphasized that tech teams and students should place high priority on information and communications technologies and biotechnology, the vast potentials of which have not been tapped yet.

The official inspected over 30 knowledge-based products earlier developed by the students of Tehran University, which were displayed in an exhibition.

These products included an optical antenna, a solar power inverter, rechargeable batteries, a 3D printer, an electroencephalogram (an electrophysiological monitoring device to record the electrical activity of brain) and smart power meters.

The center has been developed with the support of the Presidential Office’s Science and Technology Department.
