EghtesadOnline: Shiraz in Fars Province will get an innovation factory based on a multilateral deal signed this week.

During a meeting held on Monday, a contract on the construction of a tech center was signed by six entities, namely the Vice Presidential Office for Science and Technology, Fars Governorate, ICT Ministry, Iranian Telecommunications Manufacturing Company, ICT Science and Technology Park and Attar Holding Company.

The innovation factory is to be established at ITMC that is based in Shiraz.

According to the ICT Ministry's website, Yadollah Rahmani, an official with the Fars Governorate, said the initiative is an opportunity to promote entrepreneurship and startup ecosystem in the province, Financial Tribune reported.

He underlined the necessity of devising a timetable for the speedy implementation of the project.

Mehrdad Sohrabi, the head of ICT Ministry’s provincial office in Fars, said the innovation factory aims to attract startups, accelerators and knowledge-based companies active in the fields of electronics, communications and IT.

"Giving financial support to startups, creating an investment mechanism, finding an appropriate market for developing technological products by tech teams are envisaged in the agreement," he said.

According to Sohrabi, a committee has been established to oversee the implementation of the agreement, along with designing the budget and monitoring the work process.

The move is in line with the government’s policies on supporting knowledge-based companies and startups to reduce the domestic economy's dependency on oil revenues.

The development of Iranian tech teams in different fields is a testament to the positive impact of these policies.
