By the end of this period the number of active ATMs across the country reached 57,052, IBENA reported, citing data from the Central Bank of Iran.
Comparing the new numbers with statistics reported for the end of first half of the previous fiscal year ( Sept. 22, 2018) shows an increase of 2,000 ATMs. (The number of ATMs then stood at 55,282).
With 7,945 ATMs, the largest state-owned lender, Bank Melli Iran recorded the highest number of ATMs across the country in the aforesaid period, or 13.9% of the total, according to Financial Tribune.
BMI processed 299.35 million transactions -- a 21% share of all processed transactions.
It was followed by Refah Bank with 130 million transactions, Bank Saderat Iran 126 million transactions and Bank Mellat 109 million transactions.
More than 329.1 million transactions were processed by the ATMs in Tehran Province.
The privately owned Bank Pasargard held the lion's share of ATMs in the sprawling capital, followed by BMI and Bank Saderat.
This is while provincial ATMs processed 1.09 billion transactions with BMI processing the highest number followed by Refah Bank and Bank Saderat Iran.
PIN Pad Transactions
A total of 76.34 million transactions were conducted through in-branch PIN pads during the period.
A PIN pad is a device similar to a Point of Sale (POS) device with the difference being that PIN pads are used in banks to help customers use banking services more easily.
About 71,133 PIN pads are installed in banks. With 15,059 sets and BMI has the highest number.
This is followed by Bank Keshavarzi Iran, the main state-owned lender to the agro sector, and Bank Saderat Iran.
BMI, Bank Saderat Iran and Bank Keshavarzi Iran processed the highest number of transactions via PIN pads.
A total of 13.1 million transactions were processed through 14,683 PIN pads in the province of Tehran.
Data show that BMI, recorded the highest number of processed transactions via PIN pads in the capital.
The report says statistics exclude data for some banks as they failed to update their status.
For instance data about Ansar Bank, Parsian Bank, Export Development Bank of Iran and Iran Zamin Bank were found to be outdated.
